“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” - Psalm 100: 4 & 5
Today, Lord, I thank you and praise you for opening up your cloudy sky and pouring down the rain. Yes, I’m thankful for rain; and I’ll continue to pray for more!
This is going to sound silly, but in the midst of praising you for the rain and cloudy skies this week, you’ve placed one old hymn in my heart this week and I thank you for the memories and comfort these hymns bring to me. I thank you for each faithful individual who told me of “a home far beyond the skies.”
O they tell me of a home far beyond the skies,
O they tell me of a home far away;
O they tell me of a home where no storm clouds rise,
O they tell me of an unclouded day.
O the land of cloudless day,
O the land of an unclouded day;
O they tell me of a home where no storm clouds rise,
O they tell me of an unclouded day.
O they tell me of a home where my friends have gone,
O they tell me of a home far away;
Where the tree of life in eternal bloom
Sheds its fragrance thro’ the unclouded day.
O the land of cloudless day,
O the land of an unclouded day;
O they tell me of a home where no storm clouds rise,
O they tell me of an unclouded day.
O they tell me that He smiles on His children there,
And His smile drives their sorrow all away,
And they tell me that no tears ever come again
In that lovely land of unclouded day.
O the land of cloudless day,
O the land of an unclouded day;
O they tell me of a home where no storm clouds rise,
O they tell me of an unclouded day.
(O They Tell Me of a Home / Josiah K. Alwood, 1828-1909)
So, Lord, after a second summer in the midst of a tough drought, I praise you and thank you for the rain; and I also praise you for “a home far beyond the skies” where there will be cloudless days. You are simply magnificent!
